The home to modern drama, Greece is the birthplace of thinkers and dramatists such as Socrates, Aeschylus and Euripides. Greek theatre was a spectacular even in ancient Greece with dramatists reaching positions of high esteem. It was a culture filled with thought and its benefits can be realized when we take the legacy left to us by the ancient Greeks into consideration. It is not for nothing that the country is considered as the cradle of the Western civilization.

Greece is worth a visit within itself as the country is beautiful and said to have the tenth longest coastline in the world. It has many islands to its name such as the Ionian Islands and Crete which all enjoy the picturesque coastlines. Greece is also a very mountainous country with about 80 percent of the country consisting of mountains. Mount Olympus is the highest and is believed to be home to the vast number of ancient Greek gods known as the Olympians. The king of the Olympians was Zeus referred to as the ‘Father of Gods and men'.

However to holiday in Greece and not visit the places of historical significance would be a terrible waste and so make sure to make time in the holiday agenda to visit these places. Of course first on the list would have to be the Acropolis which is in Athens. The Parthenon which is a temple dedicated to the Greek goddess Athena is in the Acropolis. There was a statue of Athena in the Parthenon which was made of gold and ivory and was about 12 m tall. Athens itself was a hub of activity and still retains the same appeal as of ancient times. It is central to the economic, industrial, financial and political life of modern day Greece.

The Agora was a place of assembly in ancient Greece and this is where free-born males would gather to hear the verdicts of the ruling King and council. Later this was turned into a marketplace. Now-a-days, visitors can visit the ruins at this site which also has the Temple of Hephaestos.

A visit to the National Archaeological Museum is a must in order to see first hand some amazing artefacts from a variety of archaeological locations from around Greece. There is even a replica of the famous Trojan Horse, the war mask of Agamemnon and armour of historical times.
